In an effort to reduce childhood obesity by strengthening schools’ physical education requirements, federal legislators recently proposed an amendment to the federal No Child Left Behind Act, the Chattanoogan reports. The Fitness Integrated with Teaching (FIT) Kids Act, sponsored by U.S. Reps. Ron Kind (D-Wis.), Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.) and Jay Inslee (D-Wash.), would require the government to measure schools’ progress toward meeting PE targets established by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
